Odometer Fraud Allegations Spark Legal Action Against Car Dealer
Allegations of Illegal Odometer Rollbacks
State Attorney General Lawsuit. Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita has filed a lawsuit against an Indianapolis-based dealership, accusing it of fraudulently rolling back odometers on numerous vehicles. Consumers believed they were purchasing low-mileage cars, only to discover the vehicles had significantly more wear and tear.

The lawsuit and its owners and employees are responsible for rolling back the odometers on at least 216 vehicles. The total mileage rolled back is alleged to exceed 14 million miles.
Consumer Deception and Legal Violations
“This outright fraud unfairly tarnishes the reputation of honest individuals in the used-car business,” said Attorney General Rokita. “These deceptive tactics trick consumers into purchasing vehicles in much worse condition than they appear.”
Violation of State and Federal Laws
The lawsuit alleges that the dealership’s actions violate several laws, including the Indiana Deceptive Consumer Sales Act, the Indiana Odometer Act, the Federal Odometer Act, and the Motor Vehicle Unfair Practices Act.
State Attorney General Lawsuit. Seeking Consumer Restitution and Penalties
Attorney General Rokita is seeking injunctive relief, consumer restitution, treble damages, civil penalties, and other forms of relief. “We are committed to holding businesses accountable for such misconduct and obtaining restitution for the affected consumers,” Rokita added.
